Following the recent rainfall, Veolia advise that the contents of the storm tanks have been returned overnight, in line with agreed operating procedures.

There is very little residual material left in the tanks and they will be hosed clean today. The job should take around 4 hours to complete. The wind is onshore at the moment but experience over recent months has shown that there is less odour risk whilst cleaning out "fresh" material.

There are Fringe Festival performances on Leith Links until around 24th August.  Therefore, the maintenance work as previously notified will only be carried out should the wind direction remain offshore for the duration of the work.

Veolia Water, the Operators of Seafield Waste Water Treatment Works has advised that the work to Detritor No 1 has been completed.  The new grit removal pumps and scraper refurbishment have been tested through a week long operating trial and the new equipment is working as expected.

The next phase is to release Detritor No 3 to Biwaters, however this is to be postponed slightly to ensure that the work doesn't cause any odour nuisance to the Mela festival on Leith Links this weekend.  As such the cleaning work will start on Monday morning and is likely to take 24 to 36 hours to complete.

If the wind direction is onshore, then the work will be carried out through the night, however, if the wind is offshore, then the work will be carried out uninterrupted until completion to minimise any odour issues.
