Your questions and answers

Why is Scottish Water changing the process?

We have reviewed the existing design and we believe there is an improved option for treating waste water in Dunoon. We believe we can deliver more customer benefits with the redesign such as less potential for odour, less rock removal and simplification of the
 plant process.

Why were these changes not considered prior to the planning appeal?

Scottish Water engineers have continued to review the design and this has highlighted the benefits of changing the process.  We believe it would be remiss not to include these changes and develop the best scheme for everyone’s benefit.

What are the changes?

The changes are to the site layout at Bullwood Quarry and simplification of the treatment  process.

What impact will these changes have on the community?

There will be no impact on the community.  The Waste Water Treatment Works will be
easier to operate, less risk of failure, reduce noise associated with rock removal at the quarry and reduce the risk of potential odour.

Will you have to reapply for planning permission?

Yes planning permission will be required because of the changes to the site layout at Bullwood Quarry.

What will the odour impact be?

Whilst the original design offers an excellent odour management plan the redesign process will enhance this and reduce the risk of odours

Is this being done to try and spend less money in Dunoon?

No the capital investment in Dunoon is more than £30m for each of the processes.

If SW is granted planning when will construction begin?

We intend to start as soon as possible, we expect this to be late 2009.

Are these changes to allow for further development in Dunoon?

This proposal does incorporate growth in Dunoon for foreseeable future and is linked to the local plan.
