Household Charges 2009-10

The new charges for 2009/10 will mean the average Scottish household annual water and waste water bill will be around £324. The average household in Scotland is between Council Tax Band B and Band C.

The price increase, which will come into effect from 1 April 2009, will be pegged at 3.7 per cent. The charges for 2009/10 were set, as in previous years, using the October Retail Price Index current rate of inflation, which was sitting at 4.2 per cent. The rise in charges was pegged at 0.5 per cent below inflation.

The average household bill is less than the average household bill in England and Wales and is lower than the average in seven of the companies south of the border. It is also considerably lower than other utility charges and lower than household charges being faced by the majority of water customers in England and Wales.

This will mean that the average household* will still pay less than £1 a day for the water services they receive, which includes all the drinking water you receive to the taps in the heart of your home and all the waste water removed from your home, treated and then returned safely to the environment.

* The average household is between Council Tax Band B and Band C and has a combined bill of less than £1 a day. Individual water supply and waste water collection charges are less than £1 a day for all households (except for the individual water supply and waste water collection charges for Band H households).
